Bratislava / Wien
A dozen of students from the three secondary schools in Bratislava
(Gymnasium Grösslingová, Novohradská and Teplická) did participate at the
first joint Slovak-Austrian lecture. The topic was really pioneering -
robotics.

- November 6th and 13th 2009
23 teams participated in a robotic contest of young pupils of age 10-16. Children brought autonomous robots built
of LEGO Mindstorms parts that were to complete 12 different tasks known from the start of September.
Participants also presented their research projects, and competed in their team work performance. The overall winner
in Bratislava is the team ANAGOONE, and in Kosice team GALEJE, both advancing to the Central European finals in Paderborn
on December 5th 2009.

On August 18 - 20, the 14th World Championship in Robotic Soccer organized
by FIRA was held in Incheon in Korea.
Slovakia has been represented by the team of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering from Košice, TUKE Robotics. In the most popular category
"mirosot middle league", the team achieved third place. Final results:
1. Singapore, 2. China, 3. Slovakia. In category "mirosot large league",

Self-learning robots, robotic sailing boats or sophisticated robotic mechanics
were just some of the exciting topics that 24 students from all over Europe
got to grips with between 1st and 15th August. Scientists from Austria,
Slovakia and Great Britain gave these next-generation researchers a
fascinating insight into their research areas.
As well as lectures, the programme also included excursions and workshops, giving students hands-on experience and enabling them to bring their own robots to life.

The 14th year of contest in building and programming robots for elementary and secondary schools took place in Liptovsky Hradok. The contestants were solving a specified task in the construction category, and running their robots in the RoboSoccer, RoboRescue and RoboDance categories. 17 Rescue Teams, 8 + 6 soccer teams, 5 dance teams, and 15 construction teams were competing during a 2-day contest in the Secondary School of Electrotechnics.25. 4. 2009

Costructionism and Robotics in School EducationAt the Department of AI, FMPHI, Comenius university, at the 12:30 there will be a seminar held by the Prof. Dimitris Alimisis (Department of Education, School of Pedagogical & Technological Education, Greece), about the Costructionism and Robotics in School Education.Abstract: During the last few years, robotics is being introduced in school education, from kindergarten to high secondary school, either as an interdisciplinary, project-based learning activity or focused on school subjects, such as Science, Maths, Informatics and Technology. The use of robotics in education offers a learning environment that enables learners to control the behavior of a tangible model by means of a virtual environment actively involving learners in problem solving and encouraging them to carry out experiments and create their own programmable artifacts. During this seminar we will attempt to discuss and answer questions like the following:
- Why Robotics in school education?
- How can we partner robotics technology with the ideas of constructionism?
- Which teaching methodology is appropriate for the introduction of robotics in school class?
- What is the teacher' role?
- How should teachers be trained in using successfully robotics in their class?

World's best autonomous sailing boats will compete on the Austrian Lake
Neusiedl from 20th to 25th of Mai 2008 in order to win the first world
championship in robotic sailing. Morover the event is a very good trial
for the Microtransat in autumn 2008. This will be the first
transatlantic race for autonomous sailboats of up to 4m length.
The championship will be accompanied with the IRSC 2008 -- the first International Robotic Sailing Conference.

Mobile robot system was build by ICII and ATEC Ltd. and it is
designed for indoor environment. Chassis is designed only for flat
surface. Mobile robot kinematics consists of two driving wheels and
one castor wheel (differential drive). Because of robot circular form
and sensors placing on robot perimeter is possible to use robot
rotation over its own axis for robot vicinity sensing precision
improvement.

An outdoor mobile robot MRVK-01 is a four wheel mobile robot with difference
control system.
The motion system contains two level gear box. Robot contains also an
ultrasonic sensors, laser scanner, colour camera, GPS module and gyroscope.
Robot can be remotely controlled using the wi-fi.
Robot was build in ZTS VVU Košice without the software.

TUKE robotics won 4th place at FIRA Cup world championship in DortmundTeam from the Technical University in Kosice reached fourth place in a tough competition of 22 teams. TUKE robotics confirmed their best ranking among the European teams achieved at the last European Championship. Come with us to visit (and participate!) RobotChallenge 2006 Wien. The RobotChallenge is the biggest competition in Austria for self-made, autonomous, and mobile robots. The basic idea of the competition is to inspire and motivate the creative forces in young people to become involved with innovative technology, research and science.
The event is arranged from InnoC.at in cooperation with the Federal Austrian Computing Centre (BRZ) and the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. The cooperation between these organisations ensures a high standard and gives the event an international character. More info...
